Egon Schiele's family moved from Tulln to Klosterneuburg in 1904. Egon's father spent the last months of his life here, severely marked by his syphilis. The death of his father hit Egon, aged just 14, with full force. The artist would mourn this loss for the rest of his life. Time and again, Schiele visited places that reminded him of his father.

Egon Schiele attended the secondary school in Klosterneuburg. The school records there bear witness to a disastrous school career. Only the teacher Professor Ludwig Karl Strauch, a respected painter who taught freehand drawing at the school, recognised his talent and supported him. He gave him private lessons at his home and let him paint next to him on an easel.

Alessandra Comini also stopped off in Klosterneuburg in 1963 during her research on Egon Schiele. She visited his school. She also visited the widow of the late Professor Strauch.
